Not all talking therapies are relational and counsellors are different…

Introducing Kate Carter

Kate Carter

Hi, I’m Kate, and I am an advanced trainee Relational Integrative Psychotherapist, working towards a Post-Graduate Diploma.

This means that the work is done in relationship with each other and is not something that is done to you. I work on a one-to-one basis with adults (18 and over), offering weekly 60 minutes sessions.

Life doesn’t always work out how we wanted or hoped it would
Paula Haigh - Counsellor

Things happen in life, and it can sometimes feel like we are surviving rather than thriving. This sometimes means our usual coping mechanisms are no longer working for us, and we might be doing something different that is not healthy for us, or we might feel like nothing is changing or working out. Whatever the reason is for seeking support, a positive and trusting therapeutic relationship can help us feel seen, heard and safe. The safer we feel and the more awareness we have of what makes us do what we do, the more possible it is to thrive and grow.

Most of my adult life I have worked in Domestic Abuse and worked as an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor for 14 years in a Specialist Support Service. I am passionate about raising the awareness of the trauma experienced by victims and survivors and ensuring the truth and dynamics of that abuse are understood and heard.

I know when I started my own therapy, I was not in a good place, hurting and stuck. Stepping into a therapist’s room for the first time is a brave thing to do. So it is important to see a therapist you feel good about. I therefore offer a free initial phone call so we can speak and see how things feel.

In the UK, the counselling profession operates through a system of voluntary self-regulation. To ensure you receive ethical, quality care, all of our counsellors are registered with a professional body accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA), for us that's the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy)
